Our Research

The word ‘Research’ is often used in the supplement industry, however, not all research is credible or carried out equally. There are lots of different types of research out there, but it is highly unusual; for a nutritional supplement company to carry out ‘Peer reviewed’, ‘Published’, ‘Double blind’, ‘Placebo controlled’, ‘Scientific research’.

All of the Aliment Probiotics come from a well researched Probiotic consortia called ‘Lab4’

Lab4 Probiotics have to date been subject to more than 35 probiotic clinical trials supported by continuous in vitro and in vivo studies. These studies cover a broader range of conditions than any other multi-strain probiotic consortia* in the world, including IBS, immunity, allergy, athletic performance, cognitive function, antibiotics and weight loss.

Research projects in the UK and across the world always need funding and investment both from commercial and academic partners. Many people are under the impression that if a company funds any kind of research, then the results will be biased. However, if the research is carried out correctly and is double blind placebo controlled, then the results will be unbiased and robust.

We have been proud to work with Dr Jamie Pugh and Liverpool John Moores University for a number of years while Jamie worked towards a successful PhD, and subsequent research projects using our probiotics.

Dr Pugh has published several papers in the area of Probiotic and Sport Performance particularly in endurance athletes, using our probiotic strains.

If you would like to read more on the papers, please see below:

1. Running a marathon leads to significant shifts in blood metabolites. Lab4 Probiotics supplementation lessons this impact. View Study (PDF)

2.  Lab4 Probiotics increases the amount of consumed carbohydrates you're able to use during endurance exercise, and also increases total carbohydrate oxidation, while reducing fat oxidation. View Study (PDF)

3. Lab4 Probiotics protects endurance runners from gut disturbances during a marathon race and may help maintain their running pace during the latter stages of racing. View Study (PDF)
