Vitamin C Surprise – At ‘that’ age!

Vitamin C Surprise – At ‘that’ age!

I have been in the ‘Supplement Industry’ for over 25 years and have seen many products come and go, and of course some, that stick around year after year.

Some are the staples of supplementation like Vitamin C. This is probably the best known of all the Vitamins, and most people will immediately say, “its good when you have a cold”, or “eat some oranges for Vitamin C”!

Whereas, both of these statements are actually true, I also think that Vitamin C is a bit of an unsung hero in the supplement world!

Vitamin C is a Vitamin that I have always felt is very important, and have taken it on and off over the years.

After having a short break from supplements during the summer, I decided as we moved from Autumn to Winter that I would get back to taking Vitamin C. This time in the form of 1000mg tablets with added Bioflavonoids.

(For those of you who don’t know, Bioflavonoids are found naturally in the pith of oranges, hence they work as a great partner to Vitamin C with anti inflammatory and cardiovascular support).

The idea behind this was mainly to try to avoid the seasonal coughs and colds and the horrible flu that has been going around.

The results have been very noticeable for me! I have aimed for 3-4g of Vitamin C a day, taking the tablets spread throughout the day which is essential and works better than taking all at once.

I found, if I was feeling a bit tired, I would take a Vitamin C, and really felt I had much more energy afterwards! This meant that because I was taking it throughout the day in 1000mg doses, my energy levels were maintained throughout the day.

There is also a noticeable difference in my skin and dark circles under my eyes, and even my nails.  At first I couldn’t work out what was making the difference, then I realised the only difference in my routine was the Vitamin C!

I will admit, as a woman I am at that stage of life, where hormones are changing, and my skin  had become very dry. So I was delighted when I noticed this extra benefit from the Vitamin C tablets which were originally to try to ward off the coughs and colds!

When I think about it further, it makes sense…..Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant, which helps with the signs of ageing, it is also an important part of collagen production and maintenance and anti inflammatory in the body.

Although it has been around for many years….I had better not take this one for granted…..Vitamin C is still the number one!
